The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has refuted viral social media reports claiming that another building collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos, describing the information as untrue.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said emergency officials promptly responded after the reports surfaced by dispatching personnel to the alleged scene.
According to him, the assessment confirmed that no fresh building collapse had occurred in the area.
“Following the receipt of the information, the Agency immediately deployed personnel to assess the reported location.
“After a thorough sweep of the area, no evidence of a second building collapse was found,” the statement read.
Oke-Osanyintolu cautioned residents against sharing unverified information, stressing that inaccurate emergency alerts could interfere with the work of rescue agencies and slow responses to real incidents.

“The circulation of false emergency reports diverts critical resources, dissipates operational efforts and may delay response to genuine emergencies where lives are at risk,” he stated.
He also commended residents for remaining alert and urged the public to continue reporting emergencies through the appropriate channels so that first responders can verify incidents before they are widely circulated.
The permanent secretary reiterated the agency’s resolve to protect lives and property through efficient and coordinated emergency response efforts.
“Under the leadership of Mr Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, LASEMA and all emergency response agencies remain fully committed to protecting lives and property through prompt, coordinated and professional emergency response,” the statement added.
The clarification follows the recent collapse of a two-storey building in the Alakija community, which claimed nine lives and left 27 others injured.
The earlier incident, which occurred near Alakija Bus Stop in Satellite Town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, prompted a large-scale rescue operation involving multiple emergency agencies. The operation lasted two days before all victims trapped beneath the rubble were recovered.
