It is uproarious when I see the meme about ladies promising God about not going back to sex when their menstration calendar is showing two days late or three days’.
Hey ladies, how many of you all stick to this promise when your menstruation eventually comes for the month? I know you all can’t stick to promises and better be thankful we’re not operating in the Old Testament laws.
Seeing about to start and one day or two days’ late on your menstrual calendar talking of PC and flo can’t be depressing knowing you didn’t engage in unprotected sex or you did but took some contraceptive or didn’t have sex at all.
Before we talk about some of the causes of late menstruation and some visible solutions, below are some testimonies from ladies who chose to be anonymous but you might have been in their situation:
………………..
The very first time my menstruation refused to pop after showing two days’ late on my manual calendar I was still in secondary school, I was scared even though I have not started having sex I couldn’t approach anyone to discuss my worries. Something came to my mind and I took two paracetamol and my menstruation started to flow. Told my mum about it the following day and I remember her booking an appointment with our family daughter to check if I was still a virgin; African mother sha. -Anonymous.
…………
Remember calling my best friend telling her about my cravings and all she could say is,ooh! What brand of diaper would you prefer I bring to your baby shower, that’s when my eyes clear open my monthly calendar app on my phone, oh girl 1day late’ sigh! I’m in a relationship and I practice safe sex, no cause for alarm, but then I picked my phone call my boyfriend to know if there was a case of torn condom from the last vigil we had, wink!, but my boyfriend reassured me of his Agame skill saying ‘babe trust me, I can’t can’t put your life at risk’ so what could have been the problem? Boom! My visitor arrived on the third day -Anonymous.
………………
Having a nurse friend has always saved my ass and most times when I see 2days late 3days late I don’t panic. All I say to it is ‘when you’re ready just come’, and when it’s ready it drops. -Anonymous.
………………..
Ever since I took post-pregnancy pills thinking I was pregnant when I noticed I was two days late despite doing pregnancy test with my home kit but me just trying to be safe and seeing my menstruation the fourth day made me realized not all late menstruation is as a result of pregnancy,” anonymous.
……………..
Not seeing my menstruation close to six months and being convinced I was not pregnant didn’t even make me worried or consider going for a test but I was taking all sort of herbs recommended by some friends thinking my menstruation will come but it ended up in a surgery that claims one of my ovary. -Anonymous.
After reading all the above experiences by anonymous ladies, we’ve come to realise there are many reasons for late or irregular menstruation aside from pregnancy, other possible causes can be hormonal imbalance or an underlying medical problem.
Few of the reasons which could cause late menstruation or irregular menstruation are mentioned below;
. Stress
Among other factors, I decided to make stress the lead factor because this is the major cause of late or irregular menstruation in most ladies if not considered pregnant. Little stress is okay but when it becomes chronic it activates cortisol,Cortisol is otherwise known as a stress hormone which is made in the adrenal glands. It’s increased when we experience heightened anxiety or stress, and reduced when we’re in a relaxed state. However when stress is prolonged in the body, your body can induce amenorrhea and will prevent your menstruation flow.
. Medication
This is another factor that activates irregular or late menstruation. When most women are being placed on new medication few questions their doctors or pharmacist on possible reactions their body might need to adjust to or read the leaflet in the pack to see possible side effects that may trigger imbalance also some birth control pills contain the hormones estrogen and progestin, which prevent your ovaries from releasing eggs. IUD and other types of contraceptives that are implanted can cause the menstruation to cease while those implants are still active.
. Excessive exercise
Keeping fit is fine but when it becomes really frequent it works against estrogen by decreasing the secretion in the body . Estrogen is the hormone that regulates the female reproductive system.
. Change in body size
Weight gain or weight loss these are also factors that trigger irregular or late menstruation weighing below what you should weigh can cause menstruation disorder as well as eating disorders such as anorexia, nervosa and bulimia.
Early PeriMenopause
Perimenopause is the early stage of menopause where you notice fluctuations in the monthly appearance of your menstruation which makes the estrogen level decline which I don’t think any ladies in their 20s should be worried about.
. Thyroid gland factor
Thyroid regulates the body’s metabolism and this may affect the hormone level. An overactive or an underactive thyroid gland may cause late and irregular menstruation.
. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a health condition that causes a hormonal imbalance which can lead to missed periods. Also, Polycystic ovary syndrome causes the body to produce more of the male hormone androgen. Cysts form on the ovaries as a result of this hormone imbalance. Reactions from PCOS can make ovulation irregular or stop it.
Notice: You’re a day or two days late and being one hundred percent sure you’re not pregnant, a warm bath and drinking a mug of clean warm water may also ease the menstrual period delay and allow free flow. Maintaining a healthy diet and minimal exercise also helps the hormones.
