The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has stepped up its environmental enforcement campaign with the closure of several commercial facilities along the Tejuosho–Ojuelegba axis for alleged breaches of waste disposal regulations.
The action, executed on Thursday, July 30, 2026, followed the failure of affected premises to comply with earlier directives issued by the authority after being notified of sanitation violations.
Operatives from LAWMA’s Waste Investigation, Surveillance and Enforcement (WISE) unit carried out the exercise alongside officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to LAWMA, some of the sealed facilities had continued practices considered harmful to the urban environment, including the improper disposal of refuse on public spaces and road medians.

The agency’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, confirmed the enforcement through a statement shared on his official X account, noting that the measure was necessary to uphold Lagos State’s environmental standards.
Gbadegesin specifically identified the Oluremi Tinubu and Anambra warehouses at Ijesha Bus Stop as among the premises shut by enforcement officers over repeated sanitation breaches.
He explained that the facilities would remain closed until the operators satisfy all regulatory conditions and receive clearance from the appropriate authorities.
The LAWMA chief executive reaffirmed that the agency would sustain its monitoring and enforcement activities across the state, stressing that environmental protection requires the cooperation of residents, businesses and institutions.
The latest intervention forms part of Lagos State’s continuing drive to curb indiscriminate waste disposal, safeguard public infrastructure and maintain cleaner communities through stricter compliance with environmental regulations.
