Lawyer Demands Suspension, Probe of Nnaji Over Alleged Certificate Forgery

Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has called on the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, over alleged certificate forgery.

Effiong made the demand on Monday, the 6th of October, 2025, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

He noted that the discrepancies in Nnaji’s academic records, alongside the conflicting accounts from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the minister, must not be ignored.

The lawyer expressed concern that such alleged inconsistencies were not detected during the minister’s screening process before his appointment.

“How did all these things escape the scrutiny of the Nigerian State Security Service?

“As I speak to you, the State Security Service has maintained a conspiratorial silence. It is a conspiracy,” he said.

Effiong described the allegations as “grave” and insisted that President Bola Tinubu should suspend Nnaji until a thorough investigation is carried out.

“This minister must be immediately suspended pending the conclusion of the investigation.

“He has to surrender himself to the police for investigation for forgery; otherwise, they will be telling Nigerians that we are running a government of certificate forgers and criminality,” he added.
