Rebecca Sharibu, the mother of Leah Sharibu—the Christian schoolgirl abducted by Boko Haram in 2018 has commemorated her daughter’s 22nd birthday, which also marks her seventh year in captivity.
In a video shared on Open Doors UK’s social media on Thursday, Rebecca shared an emotional video message to mark her daughter’s birthday, conveying the deep sorrow she felt from their long-standing separation.
Leah was among the 110 students kidnapped from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe State, on February 19, 2018.

While other girls were later released, Leah was reportedly held back for refusing to renounce her Christian faith.
Despite the years, she affirmed that her faith remains unshaken and expressed hope that God will still bring her daughter home.
She called on all people of faith and conscience to continue praying—not just for Leah, but for all who are imprisoned because of their religious beliefs.
