Abdelhakim Al-Shalmani, President of the Libyan Football Federation, has resigned following accusations of the mistreatment of Nigeria’s Super Eagles during their trip to Libya for the 2025 AFCON qualifier.
The resignation was announced during the Federation’s General Assembly meeting on Sunday.
“I do not want to be part of the failure in Libyan sports,” Al-Shalmani declared, while expressing gratitude and forgiveness toward his colleagues.
The Super Eagles were stranded at Al Abraq International Airport for over 16 hours without assistance, prompting widespread outrage.
CAF has since launched an investigation into the incident, with disciplinary actions expected.
This resignation marks a turbulent time for Libyan football, as the country faces mounting scrutiny over its treatment of visiting teams.
