Lightning Strike Kills Young Herder, 12 Cows in Kaduna

A devastating lightning strike has claimed the life of a young herder and 12 of his cattle in Matuak Giwa, Bondon District, Moro’a Chiefdom, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The tragic incident, which occurred during a heavy downpour, was confirmed on Monday by the Village Head of Matuak Giwa, Simon Ayuba. According to Ayuba, the herder had sought shelter from the rain alongside his livestock when the deadly bolt struck, killing them instantly.

“The herder, along with 12 cows, died on the spot. It was a tragic occurrence that has left the community in shock,” Ayuba stated.

The Ardo of Bondon District, Tanko Isiyaka, also confirmed the heartbreaking event, revealing that the deceased herder was from Bauchi State. He expressed deep sorrow over the loss and called for prayers and support for the bereaved family.

“This is a painful incident, and we stand with the family in this difficult time. May God give them the strength to bear this loss,” Isiyaka said.

The young herder was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites, leaving behind a grieving family struggling to come to terms with the sudden and tragic loss.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, serving as a stark reminder of the unpredictable forces of nature and the vulnerability of those who make their livelihoods in the open fields.
