Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has been ruled out for an extended period after suffering a fractured leg during the club’s 2‑1 Premier League win against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The Sweden international, 26, netted Liverpool’s opening goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but was injured in the act of scoring when his foot became trapped between Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven’s legs.
Isak signalled for medical attention and limped off the pitch, clearly in discomfort.
Liverpool confirmed on Monday, December 22, that scans revealed a fibula fracture and associated ankle injury.
The striker underwent successful surgery later that day, and rehabilitation will continue at the club’s training centre.
No specific return timetable has been provided.

The injury is a major blow for Liverpool, who paid a British transfer record £125 million to sign Isak from Newcastle United in September.
Prior to this match, Isak had scored twice in 10 Premier League appearances this season and was working to establish himself after earlier fitness issues.
Isak’s absence deepens Liverpool’s attacking challenges. Mohamed Salah is away representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, and the club’s forward options are limited by other fitness concerns.
With no timeline set on Isak’s return, Liverpool face an extended period without one of their key forwards.
