Super Falcons Head Coach, Justin Madugu, has expressed optimism and pride despite missing out on the CAF Women’s Coach of the Year award.
Madugu lost the continental honour to TP Mazembe’s Moroccan coach, Lamia Boumedhi, even after guiding Nigeria to victory at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The decision sparked reactions among fans, given the Super Falcons’ title-winning campaign under his leadership.
Speaking after the announcement, Madugu remained positive, stressing that individual awards are secondary to team success. He described the WAFCON triumph as a greater achievement and reaffirmed his commitment to the continued growth and dominance of Nigerian women’s football.

The Super Falcons’ WAFCON victory further cemented their status as Africa’s most successful women’s national team, while Madugu’s calm response highlighted his focus on long-term development rather than personal accolades.
CAF’s decision to honour Boumedhi followed TP Mazembe’s impressive performances in continental competitions, underscoring the competitive nature of the award.
Madugu, however, has vowed to build on the WAFCON success as the Super Falcons prepare for future international challenges.
