Police authorities in Borno State have announced that normalcy has been restored in Maiduguri following Monday’s coordinated bombings that left dozens dead and many others injured.
The spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, Kenneth Daso, disclosed this on Wednesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, noting that joint security operations were ongoing alongside a full-scale investigation into the attacks.
“Well, as of now, I would say in Borno State, normalcy has been restored,” Daso stated, adding that security agencies were actively probing the scenes of the explosions to determine those responsible.
The blasts, suspected to have been carried out by suicide bombers, struck a busy market, the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), and a post office area in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. The coordinated attacks occurred on Monday evening, sending residents into panic as crowds attempted to flee the first explosion, only to be caught in a second blast minutes later.
Authorities initially confirmed at least 23 deaths, while more than 100 persons sustained injuries—making it one of the deadliest incidents in the state in recent times. Several victims are currently receiving treatment at UMTH and other medical facilities across the city.
In response to the tragedy, President Bola Tinubu directed the country’s security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee operations and coordinate efforts to contain the situation. He described the attacks as “desperate attempts by criminals and terrorist elements” seeking to instil fear, assuring Nigerians of the government’s commitment to defeating terrorism.

Governors across the country also condemned the incident, describing it as a reckless loss of human lives and pledging collaboration with the Federal Government to strengthen security and dismantle terrorist networks.
The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, visited the victims at UMTH on Tuesday and carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the attack sites. He reaffirmed the police force’s determination to prevent future incidents and bring perpetrators to justice.
Security agencies have intensified surveillance and joint patrols in the city as investigations continue.
Residents, meanwhile, have been urged to remain calm, vigilant, and to report any suspicious activities to security authorities
