Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has reassured the people of his commitment to protect lives and properties, describing the violence that erupted in the Iwo road area, which left in its wake, the death of an undergraduate of the Leed City University as sad and unfortunate.
The governor, in a series of tweets on his Twitter handle on Thursday, promised to rid the state of criminal elements, especially the cultists hibernating in the Iwo road area of the state.
The tweets read: “I visited the scene of the Iwo Road incident this morning. The loss of lives during the mayhem that occurred is unfortunate and should never have happened.
“I give you my word that we will ensure that everyone involved in the dastardly act is brought to book.
“I have ordered investigations. In the meantime, we will sanitise the area behind Iwo Road where cultists congregate and review the Park Management System.
“We have also informed the phone sellers to choose representatives who will discuss how we can assist them.”
However, the All Progressives Congress stated that recurring incidents of killings, banditry, kidnapping and other related vices have confirmed unpreparedness of Gov. Makinde ability to rule the state.
The party in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Dr. AbdulAzeez Olatunde said the orgy of violence unleashed on the innocent traders and passers-by at Iwo Road is not only condemnable but “in all honesty reminds us all of the trademarks of the PDP government of Engr Seyi Makinde since assumption of office on the 29th of May 2019.”
The statement blamed the recurrent security breaches, especially the Wednesday orgy of violence in Iwo road area on the excesses of the notorious Park Management outfit created by Governor Seyi Makinde.
The outfit, according to the statement was seriously fingered in the latest mayhem and it is essential that we remind the Governor, once again, to put politics aside and embrace good governance, at least for once,”
The youth are daily and systematically suffering from the “lackadaisical attitude of Gov Seyi Makinde to the security of Oyo State and he should note that security is the backbone of the development of any society.
He added, “For any state to attract serious investors, effective security of lives and property is the prerequisite of the magnetic attraction and German floor of any government, as witnessed in the last administration of Sen Abiola Ajimobi, which endeared foreign direct investors to Oyo State then.
“Imagine the anger and the despondency of the youth which forced them to carry the victims and casualties to the office of Gov Seyi Makinde, whose figures are not yet to be ascertained.
“Unfortunately, eyewitnesses account indicted the ÀMỌ̀TẸ́KÙN security outfit as toothless and ordinary passer-by because its operatives were seen watching helplessly while the orgy of violence and mayhem was ongoing, which perhaps confirms the fear of the people.”
