Malcolm-Jamal Warner, ‘The Cosby Show’ Star, Dies at 54 in Drowning Incident

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, acclaimed American actor best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, has died at the age of 54 following a tragic drowning incident in Costa Rica.

According to reports from TMZ and the Associated Press, Warner drowned on Sunday afternoon while vacationing at Playa Cocles in Costa Rica’s Limón Province. Authorities confirmed that he was swept away by a powerful ocean current sometime between 2:00 and 2:30 p.m. local time. Despite prompt rescue efforts by beachgoers and emergency assistance from the Costa Rican Red Cross, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Costa Rican Judicial Investigation Agency has released a statement confirming the cause of death and the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.

Warner became a household name in 1984 with his breakout role as Theo, the only son of Cliff Huxtable—portrayed by Bill Cosby—on the iconic family sitcom The Cosby Show. The series ran until 1992 and remains one of the most influential television shows in American history. Warner’s performance earned him widespread recognition, including an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 1986.
