A 25-year-old man, Alex Ibrahim, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over the alleged theft of electric cable valued at N7.5 million.
The defendant, who resides in the Opic area of Lagos, was accused of stealing the cable on August 9 at about 9:00 p.m. from a property located at No. 11A, Church Close, Isheri North GRA.
Police prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, informed the court that the disappearance of the cable was reported to the police, and subsequent investigation traced the act to the defendant, leading to his arrest.
Ikhayere said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which deals with stealing and prescribes penalties for offenders.
Magistrate Lateef Owolabi granted Ibrahim bail in the sum of N800,000 with two reliable sureties in like amount.

The magistrate also directed that the sureties must present verifiable means of identification and proof of residence.
Incidents of cable theft have become increasingly common in Lagos, particularly in estates and construction sites, where stolen cables are often resold to scrap dealers.
The case has been adjourned to September 24, 2025, for mention.
Authorities warn that such activities not only cause huge financial losses but also disrupt electricity supply and delay infrastructure projects.
