Man Arrested for Impersonation, Extortion in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspect posing as a police officer and extorting members of the public.

The suspect, Nasiru Shitu, a 33-year-old man from Kofar Waika Quarters, Kano, was apprehended on Sunday by 5 pm while dressed in a suspected police uniform.

The suspect’s arrest was disclosed in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna on Tuesday.

“The suspect was arrested at Kofar Dawanau, an area where several reports of extortion by fake police officers had been received.

He said a preliminary investigation revealed that Shitu is neither a police officer nor a member of the Police Special Constabulary but an impostor, masquerading as a police officer to extort unsuspecting members of the public.

Haruna said the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution while further investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of his activities and any possible accomplices.
