Manchester United have identified Sporting Lisbon winger Pedro Goncalves as a cheaper alternative to Dortmund forward, Jadon Sancho.
The 22-year-old has caught United’s eye after scoring 15 times in 22 appearances for Sporting Lisbon and has a release clause of £51m, which is less than half of what Dortmund were demanding for Sancho last summer from United.
Goncalves has predominantly played in a central playmaker position this season but he’s adept on either wing, making him a valuable commodity for a tactically-flexible manager like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Telegraph claim United view Goncalves as a viable alternative to Sancho but that Solskjaer will be given a final say on any deal, even with a new relationship with Football Director John Murtough.
United have a good relationship with Sporting, having signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Luis Nani and Marcos Rojo, from the club.
