Many drown as boat capsizes in Bayelsa

A boat conveying people from Yenagoa to Okpoama in Brass loycal Government Area of Bayelsa State capsized on Thursday, resulting in the drowning of yet to be ascertained number of persons.

The incident occurred on Okoroma River in Nembe Local Government Area of the state.

According to witnesses, the wooden boat was conveying passengers and goods before it capsized and sank in the middle of the river.

Some passengers traveling aboard the ill-fated boat have been searching for their missing children.

The number of casualty is yet to be ascertained as rescue mission was still ongoing as of the time of filling this report.

Confirming the incident, Chairman of Maritime Union Workers in Bayelsa State, Mr Ipigansi Ogoniba, said a rescue team had already been sent to the scene.
