Kylian Mbappe, France captain and Real Madrid striker, is in Paris receiving treatment for a knee injury, but no surgery is planned, his camp confirmed on Monday.
Mbappe, who has been struggling with an injury to the external ligament of his left knee since late 2025, missed Real Madrid’s Champions League play-off second leg against Benfica due to persistent pain in training.
“In agreement with the club, he is undergoing further tests on his knee to optimise follow-up care and prepare for his comeback. No surgical intervention is being planned at the moment,” his entourage said.
Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa said the decision for rest and recovery was agreed upon by the player, club, and French national team doctors.

“It’s not going to be a question of days, it will be a bit longer, but hopefully not too long,” he said.
Mbappe’s participation in Real Madrid’s Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester City, with the first leg on March 11 and return leg on March 17, remains uncertain.
The French national team has two friendlies in the United States later this month, against Brazil on March 26 in Boston and Colombia on March 29 in Washington, ahead of their World Cup opener against Senegal on June 16.
This season, Mbappe has scored 38 goals in 33 appearances for Real Madrid.
