Medical Student Dies by Suicide in Chhattisgarh Hostel

A 24-year-old medical student of the Government Medical College, Korba, Chhattisgarh, has died by suicide in his hostel room.

The incident occurred on Saturday, September 6, when classmates went to check on him after he failed to appear for an examination.

On forcing open the locked door, they found him hanging.

Police said a note, believed to have been written by him, was recovered at the scene. It read:

“Mujhse nahi ho paya, I am sorry, papa” (“I couldn’t do it, I am sorry, papa”).

The deceased, identified as Himanshu Kashyap, had reportedly failed his first-year MBBS examinations in 2024 and was reappearing this year.

College authorities said the pressure of academic performance may have contributed to the incident.

An Accidental Death Report has been registered and his body has been sent for post-mortem as investigations continue.
