Midnight Fire Destroys Goods Worth Millions in Lagos Markets

Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in a midnight fire outbreak at Ladipo Market in Mushin and Owode Onirin Market along Ikorodu Road, Lagos State.

The inferno, which began around 1 am on Tuesday, left several shops in ruins, with goods and properties reduced to ashes.

The tragic incident has plunged the affected business owners into agony and despair.

Eyewitnesses have taken to social media to say that the fire raged for several minutes before firefighters arrived, while victims and sympathizers struggled to salvage what they could.

According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours and successfully contained it.

The video was shared on the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service X account on Tuesday, with the caption, “Fire Alerts! An inferno that emerged overnight at Warehouse A, Ladipo Street, Ladipo Market, Mushin, Lagos is being curtailed by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.”

Similarly, another fire erupted at Owode Onirin Market, affecting shops dealing in metallic materials.

Emergency responders from the Alausa and Ikorodu Fire Stations managed to bring the situation under control by 5 am.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, led by Director Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that no casualties were recorded in either incident.

She commended the efforts of firefighters from Isolo, Bolade, and Alausa stations, who faced challenges in accessing the affected areas but prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring businesses.

Adeseye assured the public that investigations were underway to determine the causes of both fires.

“Thankfully, no casualties were recorded in either incident. The causes of the fires will be ascertained as soon as firefighting operations progress to the next stage.”
