Military Moves Operation Safe Haven HQ To Mangu Amid Plateau Violence

The Joint Security Task Force, known as Operation Enduring Peace (OPSH), has moved its tactical headquarters from Jos to Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against insecurity in the area.

The relocation comes amid a series of violent attacks in Mangu, including the recent assault on Binper Village, where more than 25 people were killed.

Speaking with journalists on Wednesday during the relocation exercise, the Commander of OPSH and General Officer Commanding, 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Williams Dangana, said the move was designed to enhance the effectiveness of operations and shorten response time to security threats.

“Establishing a physical presence in Mangu will enable leadership to maintain direct, real-time assessment of the security situation and ensure timely tactical responses,” Dangana stated.

The Army chief said the relocation had received substantial support in the form of additional troops, equipment and logistics, following approval from the Chief of Army Staff, Lit-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.

“My being here is not just in person. I’m here with enablers, additional manpower and all the resources required to execute this mandate,” the GOC said.

As part of the renewed military response, the security forces have also commenced Operation Hard Nut, an initiative targeted at dismantling armed groups and restoring stability in Mangu and other affected communities in neighbouring areas.

Dangana assured residents that the military would sustain its presence in the area, with troops tasked with “systematically clear hostile elements and guarantee long-term safety for citizens of Mangu and its environs.”

The development follows weeks of renewed violence across parts of the area, which has resulted in multiple deaths and forced many residents from their homes.

The establishment of the OPSH tactical headquarters in Mangu is expected to strengthen collaboration among security agencies and community stakeholders as military operations under Operation Hard Nut intensify.
