Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed claims that his ministerial nomination was rejected by the National Assembly, stating instead that President Bola Tinubu decided to withdraw it.
Speaking in an interview on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Monday, El-Rufai clarified that the decision was solely at the president’s discretion and not a result of any rejection by lawmakers.
“I was not rejected by the National Assembly. President Tinubu simply changed his mind on my nomination,” he said.

El-Rufai’s statement comes months after his name was dropped from Tinubu’s ministerial list amid speculations about security clearance issues. While he did not elaborate on the reasons behind the president’s decision, his remarks suggest that the move was a strategic choice rather than a forced rejection.
The former governor, known for his outspoken nature, has since shifted his focus to other engagements.
