The Zamfara State House of Assembly has fulfilled its avowed position to throw the state Deputy Governor Mahdi Aliyu Gusau out of office.
The lawmakers, who recently declared that no court can save Gausau from being thrown out, fulfilled that mission this Wednesday as they impeached the deputy governor during the plenary of the house.
Gasau’s impeachment was finally carried out after the house earlier received the report of the seven-member committee set up by Kulu Aliyu, the chief judge of the state, to investigate the allegations against the deputy governor.
Recall that Shamsudeen Basko, Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Information, had on February 7, announced the service of an impeachment notice on Gusau.
The deputy’s governor’s offence according to the state assembly, include alleged “insubordination, abuse of office, and criminal self-enrichment”.
However, there are speculations that the travail of Gausau was not unconnected with his refusal to dump the Peoples Democratic Party, as did the state Governor Bello Matawalle, for the All Progressives Congress.
