Personnel of the Multinational Joint Task Force have arrested a suspected terrorist logistics courier and recovered about 21,000 rounds of ammunition during a patrol operation in Cameroon’s Far North Region.
The operation was conducted by personnel of the National Gendarmerie stationed at Hilé-Alifa under Sector 1 of the MNJTF in the Dougoum Silio area of Logone.
The Acting Chief Military Public Information Officer of the MNJTF, Lieutenant Colonel Iweha Ikedichi-Onyenonachi, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
He identified the suspect as 30-year-old Moussa Goudja, who was arrested on August 10, 2026, while allegedly transporting a large consignment of ammunition.
According to the statement, the ammunition comprised approximately 21,000 rounds of 7.62 × 39mm ammunition concealed inside three containers disguised as petroleum-product containers.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Goudja was allegedly transporting the ammunition to Ambdego for onward delivery when security personnel intercepted him.
The suspect has since been handed over to a national security agency for further investigation.
The Force Commander of the MNJTF, Major General S.T. Audu, commended the Cameroonian security forces in Sector 1 for the successful operation.
Audu said the interception had disrupted an attempt to move a significant quantity of ammunition to terrorist elements operating within the Lake Chad Basin.
He urged all sectors of the multinational force to intensify patrols and clearance operations aimed at identifying and dismantling terrorist logistics networks.
The MNJTF said it would continue to strengthen intelligence-led operations and cooperation with national security agencies across the Lake Chad Basin.
It added that sustained efforts would focus on denying terrorist groups access to weapons, ammunition and other logistical supplies while enhancing security and promoting peace across the region.
