Angry youths have burnt down the country home of the Sokoto State Commissioner for Security and Career Studies, Col. Garba Moyi (rtd), in Isa Local Government Area of the state.
The irate youths, who razed Moyi’s house, accused him of conniving with the bandits operating in the area.
The mob was also reportedly razed a vehicle belonging to the Sarkin Gobir of Isa, Alhaji Nasiru Ahmad, who they also accused of connivance.
It was learnt that trouble began when the commissioner failed to honour the village youths’ invitation to a meeting to discuss the rampant activities of bandits in the area.
The commissioner has, however, blamed the razing of his Isa country home on his political opponents.
Moyi said when contacted, “It is true that youths attacked my house at Isa Local Government. They overpowered the security man in the house and set the house ablaze.
“I am yet to visit the area to ascertain the extent of damage to the house; but I can confirm that no life was lost. For now, I cannot say anything further, as investigation is ongoing by the Police.”
Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, said investigation had already been launched to unravel the cause and those behind the incident.
The PPRO, who said that five persons had already been arrested in connection with the incident, appealed to all residents to remain calm while the police continued with investigations.
