The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has sharply criticised a recent visit by a United States congressional delegation to Nigeria, describing the lawmakers’ engagements as “sectarian, unbalanced, and troubling.”
The statement was released on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, shortly after the delegation concluded its meetings in the country.
MPAC accused the delegation of favouring certain groups during its consultations, warning that such selective engagement risks deepening divisions in Nigeria’s already sensitive religious and political landscape.
The organisation called on Nigerian authorities and international partners to ensure that foreign visits and diplomatic engagements reflect the nation’s diversity, promoting inclusivity and national cohesion.

MPAC emphasised that external interventions must be conducted responsibly to avoid exacerbating tensions and undermining social stability.
The criticism highlights ongoing concerns about the influence of foreign actors in Nigeria’s domestic affairs, particularly in areas with complex ethnic and religious dynamics.
MPAC urged all parties involved to prioritize fairness, dialogue, and national unity in future interactions.
