Robert Mugabe Jnr, son of Zimbabwe’s late president Robert Gabriel Mugabe, has been found guilty of possessing illegal drugs by a Harare Magistrates’ Court.
The verdict was handed down on Thursday, 13 November 2025.
The case followed a week of legal complications after Mugabe Jnr failed to appear at his first hearing on Thursday, 6 November 2025.
A warrant of arrest was issued, and court officials reportedly had to call his name three times outside the courtroom before Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki authorised the warrant.
He was charged under Zimbabwe’s Dangerous Drugs Act, which prohibits the possession or use of controlled substances without legal authorisation.
Authorities have not specified the exact type or amount of drugs found.
In mitigation, his lawyer highlighted his role as a single father of two and his cooperation with authorities, asking the court to show leniency.

Prosecutors argued that the law must apply equally to everyone, regardless of social standing.
The conviction is a rare legal setback for the Mugabe family, once Zimbabwe’s most influential political dynasty.
While his late father led the country for nearly four decades, Mugabe Jnr has largely avoided politics, focusing on business and social initiatives.
The court will decide whether he will serve a jail term or pay a fine, a ruling closely watched for its potential impact on high-profile drug cases in Zimbabwe.
