The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has directed security personnel to engage armed bandits and terrorists immediately, warning that any operative who hesitates under the guise of awaiting orders would be treated as collaborating with criminals.
Musa gave the directive on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, while commissioning 62 operational vehicles and security assets procured by the Sokoto State Government to strengthen security operations.
He told security personnel that troops deployed against bandits and terrorists must act decisively whenever they encounter armed criminals, stressing that hesitation in combat would no longer be tolerated.
The minister said officers who deliberately fail to confront bandits or terrorists while claiming to be awaiting instructions would be regarded as accomplices.
Commending Governor Ahmed Aliyu for investing in security, Musa described the procurement as a strategic boost to efforts against banditry, terrorism and kidnapping.

He said the armoured vehicles and tactical equipment would enhance mobility, intelligence gathering and operational effectiveness.
He also urged security agencies to safeguard the multi-billion-naira assets and deploy them responsibly, while reminding personnel to remain professional and protect innocent citizens during operations.
Earlier, Governor Aliyu said the ₦27.127 billion security package includes bullet-resistant vehicles, Buffalo Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), 320 motorcycles, 3,200 security gadgets, 2,000 bulletproof helmets and vests, 200 night-vision goggles, thermal imaging devices and other tactical equipment.
The governor disclosed that his administration has invested over ₦36 billion in security since taking office, covering operational vehicles, military and police barracks, support for the Nigerian Air Force Base and the establishment of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps.
Aliyu also said a bill proposing tougher penalties for informants aiding bandits is before the Sokoto State House of Assembly and would be signed into law once passed.
He added that the state has approved a Command and Control Centre to strengthen surveillance and operational coordination, urging residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies.
