The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urgently called upon the administration of President Bola Tinubu to investigate and address alleged unethical practices by some tertiary institutions regarding the disbursement of the Federal Government’s Student Loan Funds. The student body claims its investigations have uncovered irregularities, including the potential diversion of funds meant for students.
Addressing a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, NANS National Vice President for Inter-Campus and Gender Affairs, Akinbodunse Sileola Felicia, stated that the association’s findings revealed “some level of infractions” in the disbursement process. She alleged that certain unnamed institutions are engaging in the “illegal diversion of the funds for private use,” thereby preventing the financial aid from reaching the intended beneficiaries.
In light of these serious allegations, NANS is demanding that President Tinubu’s administration implement a robust monitoring system. The purpose of this system, according to the student body, would be to ensure transparency and accountability, guaranteeing that the loan funds are disbursed directly to the students they are allocated for.

To underscore the gravity of their concerns and press for immediate action, NANS has announced plans for significant mobilization. The association has designated April 24, 2025, as a day for nationwide mass protests to be organized across all geopolitical zones of the country.
These protests aim to draw the government’s attention to the alleged mismanagement and demand swift intervention to safeguard the integrity of the student loan program.
