The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has appointed Andrew Nwoba as the new Clerk of the Senate.
A statement released on Monday by Emmanuel Anyigor, the NASC’s Director of Information, confirmed that Nwoba’s appointment will take effect on December 11, 2024.
The decision was made during the commission’s meeting on December 4, 2024.
Nwoba, previously the Secretary of the Directorate of Legislative Budget and Planning, was promoted to replace Chinedu Akabueze, who is among several top officials retiring from the National Assembly.
Magaji Tambawal, the Clerk to the National Assembly, began his pre-retirement leave on November 1, 2024, handing over to his deputy, Kamouroudeen Ogundele.
An internal document revealed that alongside Tambawal and Akabueze, other retiring officials include the Deputy Clerk to the Senate, the Deputy Clerk of the House of Representatives, 11 directors, six deputy directors, one assistant director, and two other directors from the National Assembly Service Commission.
The NASC also announced several other appointments and redeployments within the National Assembly bureaucracy.
“In addition to Nwoba’s appointment, the NASC approved other significant changes within the National Assembly’s bureaucracy,” the statement read.
Emmanuel Oda was named Deputy Clerk (Administration), Senate, while Vivien N. Njemanze was appointed Deputy Clerk (Administration), House of Representatives. Dr. Obasi D. Ukoha will succeed Nwoba as Secretary of the Directorate of Legislative Budget and Planning.
Other changes include the redeployment of Rawlings Agada from Deputy Clerk (Administration), Senate, to Deputy Clerk (Legislative), Senate, and Florence Kehinde from Deputy Clerk (Administration), House of Representatives, to Deputy Clerk (Legislative), House of Representatives.
Earlier, the commission had approved the appointments of Ogundayo Mofoluwake Olufunmilayo as Secretary of the Directorate of Special Duties, Alkali Umar Abubakar as Secretary of the Directorate of Human Resource and Staff Development, and Essien Eyo Essien as Secretary of the Directorate of Zonal Liaison Offices.
