Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered a large cache of military-grade ammunition concealed inside bags of cassava flakes, popularly known as garri, during an anti-drug operation.
The agency also intercepted thousands of tramadol 225mg pills hidden inside a keg of palm oil in a separate operation, highlighting the growing sophistication of smuggling methods used by criminal networks.
The NDLEA disclosed the discoveries in a statement shared on Sunday by its spokesman, Femi Babafemi, via his official X account.
According to Babafemi, officers of the anti-narcotics agency often encounter dangerous items beyond illicit drugs while carrying out searches and interceptions across the country.
“In the course of our work searching for illicit drug concealment, we also stumble on other items that constitute threats to national security,” the statement read.
He explained that the first operation led to the discovery of military-grade ammunition carefully hidden inside bags of garri, while the second interception exposed tramadol pills concealed in a keg containing red oil.

“In one instance, NDLEA officers discovered a large cache of military-grade ammunition in cassava flakes (garri), and in the second video, thousands of tramadol 225mg pills were found concealed in a keg of red oil,” Babafemi stated.
He added, “The things we see in the line of duty enh.”
The agency also released videos showing the recovered ammunition and tramadol consignments, sparking reactions online over the unusual concealment methods.
The latest seizures come amid intensified efforts by the NDLEA to clamp down on drug trafficking and other criminal activities threatening national security.
