NDLEA Intercepts AK-47, Magazines Concealed in Maize Sack

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 29-year-old man, Ismail Isah, after operatives found an AK-47 rifle and two loaded magazines hidden inside a sack of maize.

The arrest took place on Friday, May 16, along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. According to a statement released on Sunday, May 18, by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Isah will be handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.

In another operation in Taraba, NDLEA officers apprehended 22-year-old Shafiu Ismail on Thursday, May 15, with 5,350 pills of tramadol and diazepam at Sabon-layin in Jalingo LGA.

That same day, operatives in Jigawa arrested Tijjani Mohammed, 35, with 198kg of cannabis, also known as skunk, in Malamawa.

In Niger State, NDLEA officers intercepted a Toyota Carina with registration number AGL 945 BK along the Mokwa-Jebba Road.

The vehicle was carrying 316 blocks of skunk weighing 143kg. A suspect, Idris Kamal, 35, was taken into custody.

At Chachi junction along Kaduna Road, Emmanuel Hassan, 26, was caught with 14.3kg of Loud, a high-grade form of cannabis.

A swift follow-up operation led to the arrest of the alleged owner of the consignment, Bello Aliyu, also known as Liti, aged 39.

In Nasarawa State, NDLEA officers arrested a 60-year-old man, Welman Kengbo, with 594.8kg of skunk in the Karu area on Friday, May 16.

On the Lekki/Epe Expressway in Lagos, another suspect, Oyenuga Toheeb, was caught with 67.5kg of cannabis on Thursday, May 15.

Meanwhile, the NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy efforts across several states.

Sensitisation campaigns were held at schools such as Supreme International School in Kano, Al-Arifeen International Academy in Kaduna, Nadado Primary School in Katsina, Ila Orangun Grammar School in Osun, and Government Secondary School in Onne, Rivers State.
