The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has alerted Nigerians to emerging drug trafficking tactics after operatives uncovered hard drugs concealed inside children’s toys, cassava granules popularly known as garri, yoghurt packs and electronic gadgets.
The agency made the disclosure on Sunday, February 15, through its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, who shared videos of the seizures on X, warning members of the public to remain vigilant.
According to Babafemi, recent operations exposed consignments of methamphetamine carefully hidden inside Hollandia yoghurt packs and MP3 players, a method he described as evidence of the growing desperation among drug traffickers to evade law enforcement.
In a post accompanying the footage, he wrote:
“Narco-trends: FYI, children’s toys and our popular cassava granules (Garri) are not spared in their desperation to conceal and traffic illicit substances. Please beware and take a look at how #ndlea_nigeria officers discovered this.”
NDLEA officials said the discoveries highlight how criminal networks are increasingly exploiting everyday household items to move illegal drugs across communities, putting unsuspecting citizens, especially children, at risk.

The agency urged Nigerians to be cautious when purchasing food items and toys, particularly from unverified sources, and encouraged the public to promptly report any suspicious activity.
NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying surveillance and interdiction efforts nationwide, stressing that it would continue to adapt its operations to stay ahead of traffickers and protect lives across Nigeria.
