The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), signaling a key milestone for junior secondary school students across Nigeria.
The announcement came on Wednesday following the conclusion of the BECE Award Committee meeting held at NECO’s headquarters in Minna.
According to Azeez Sani, NECO’s Acting Director of Public Affairs, a total of 179,201 candidates sat for the examination, which covered 12 subjects and ran from May 12 to May 23, 2025.
“The Award Committee, chaired by Dr. (Mrs.) Folake David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, expressed satisfaction with the examination and result collation process,” the Council’s statement said.
The meeting included senior NECO officials and secondary school principals nationwide, reinforcing the Council’s commitment to inclusive and transparent decision-making.
In addition to the release of results, NECO also announced the timetable for the 2025 BECE resit, scheduled for July 23 and 24, with a focus on two core subjects: Mathematics and English Studies — both mandatory for progression into senior secondary education.
Students who need to retake these subjects are advised to begin preparations in line with official guidelines, which NECO will publish shortly.

Schools and candidates can check the released results and further instructions by visiting NECO’s official website or other approved platforms.
Sani emphasized that the result release aligns with NECO’s broader objective of upholding transparency and credibility in Nigeria’s educational assessment system.
The BECE is a key national examination that determines students’ readiness to transition from basic to senior secondary education, and the 2025 edition marks yet another successful execution under NECO’s supervision.
