NECO Warns: No Extension For 2026 SSCE Registration

The National Examinations Council has announced that it will not extend the registration deadline for candidates participating in the 2026 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday, April 3, by the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Dantani Wushishi on X (formerly Twitter).

The council urged schools, proprietors, principals, and commandants to ensure all registrations are completed within the stipulated timeframe.

“The last date for the normal registration of candidates by schools is Monday, 25th May 2026, while the deadline for late registration is Friday, 29th May 2026, with no further extension,” the statement said.

NECO emphasised the importance of strict compliance with these deadlines, noting that timely registration is essential for the smooth conduct of the examination process.

The SSCE remains a critical national assessment that determines students’ eligibility for higher education, scholarships, and other post-secondary opportunities.

Consequently, the council warned that failure to meet the deadlines could prevent candidates from sitting for the examination, thereby affecting their academic progression.

The announcement, it added, is part of ongoing efforts to improve examination management and keep all stakeholders informed of key timelines.
