NELFUND was created under the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on April 3, 2024, to ensure no qualified Nigerian is denied tertiary education because of financial constraints.
Earlier this week, the Federal Government disclosed that over ₦59 billion has so far been disbursed to more than 600,000 students through NELFUND.
Speaking in Asaba, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, reiterated that the student loan scheme is designed to guarantee access to education for every eligible Nigerian.
