The Federal Government has reiterated that Nigerians do not need to apply, pay money or use personal connections to qualify for the ₦50,000 relief grant under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction issued the clarification in a statement posted on its official X handle on Friday, November 6, addressing frequently asked questions about the relief programme.
The ministry explained that the selection of beneficiaries was automated, dismissing suggestions that individuals could influence the process through applications, payments or personal connections.
In its brief statement, the ministry said: “Beneficiary selection is automated; no application, payment or personal influence is required.”
The clarification is aimed at providing accurate information to Nigerians and addressing possible misconceptions about how the grant beneficiaries are identified and receive the one-time financial assistance.

The ministry also advised members of the public to rely on its verified communication channels for information about the programme rather than unverified claims circulating online.
“For accurate information, visit our official Facebook and X pages or fmhapr.gov.ng,” the ministry stated.
The NERSI intervention is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to provide financial relief to poor and vulnerable households facing economic difficulties and the rising cost of living.
Under the programme, selected beneficiaries receive a one-time payment of ₦50,000 through approved financial service providers.
The government has maintained that beneficiaries are identified through existing social protection and national identity records, rather than an open application process.
The latest clarification comes amid public interest in the grant, with potential beneficiaries seeking information about eligibility, selection procedures and payment arrangements.
