Neuer Signs New One-Year Bayern Contract

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the Bundesliga champions until 2027.

The veteran shot-stopper, whose previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season, is now set to remain with the Bavarian club for a 16th campaign.

“It was a clear decision after taking some time to reflect,” said Neuer.

“All the conditions are met here: with this team we can beat any opponent,” he said.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in football history, Neuer finished third in the 2014 Ballon d’Or rankings behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, making him the last goalkeeper to place in the top three of the award.

According to German newspaper Bild, the 40-year-old is expected to feature less regularly during the 2026-27 campaign as Bayern gradually prepare Jonas Urbig to take over the number one role.

The German champions also confirmed a one-year extension for reserve goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.

Neuer retired from international football in 2024 after earning 124 appearances for Germany and helping the country win the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Despite stepping away from the national team, the experienced goalkeeper has remained an important figure for Bayern and recently received praise for his display in the club’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg victory over Real Madrid, where he claimed UEFA’s man of the match award.

Since arriving from Schalke in 2011, Neuer has enjoyed remarkable success with Bayern Munich, winning two Champions League trophies and lifting the Bundesliga title 13 times — matching teammate Thomas Mueller for the most league crowns.

Only in the 2011-12 and 2023-24 seasons has Neuer failed to win the Bundesliga title with Bayern.

He has also won the German Cup six times during his career, including five triumphs with Bayern and one with Schalke.
