Niger State Assembly Approves New Academic Retirement Age Bill

The Niger State House of Assembly has enacted a bill raising the retirement age for academic staff in state-owned institutions.

Under the new law, general academic staff will retire at 70 instead of 65, while professors will now retire at 75 rather than 70.

The legislation was passed during Wednesday’s plenary session after the Standing Committee on Education submitted its report, delivered by the committee chairman, Hon. Mohammed Sani Idris (Tafa constituency).

He explained that the recommendation aligns with nationwide standards and stressed that the bill is designed to retain experienced academic staff, ultimately improving the quality of education in the state.
