Nigeria Deepens Economic Cooperation With EU Through Business Forum, Says FG

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening economic relations with the European Union ahead of the 10th Nigeria–EU Business Forum scheduled to hold in Lagos on June 25, 2026.

The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, said the upcoming forum will serve as a critical avenue for promoting investment, expanding business partnerships and driving initiatives that enhance economic growth and competitiveness.

His remarks were contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS ahead of the event.

“Nigeria remains committed to creating the conditions for sustainable economic growth and investment.

The Forum provides an important platform for engaging with investors and partners, strengthening economic cooperation, and advancing initiatives that support enterprise, competitiveness, and long-term prosperity,” he said in a statement ahead of the event.

The forum is expected to attract top government officials, investors, development institutions and business executives from Nigeria and Europe.

Participants will explore ways to strengthen trade ties and unlock new investment opportunities between both regions.

Organisers said the event would focus on attracting private-sector capital, improving value chains and expanding business prospects across the Nigerian and European markets.

Activities lined up for the forum include policy discussions, business-to-business engagements and exhibitions showcasing innovative solutions and investment-ready projects.

Speaking on the significance of the gathering, the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, noted that the forum has grown into an important vehicle for converting economic goals into tangible results.

“The Nigeria–EU Business Forum has become a platform where ambition meets execution.

This tenth edition underscores our shared commitment to mobilising investment at scale and delivering sustainable economic impact,” Mignot said.

According to the organisers, this year’s edition will build on the achievements of previous forums by promoting fresh partnerships, expanding investment opportunities and encouraging conversations around innovation, financing and policy reforms.

The event comes at a time when Nigeria is pursuing measures aimed at increasing foreign direct investment and boosting economic expansion through fiscal, monetary and business-environment reforms.

The European Union remains one of Nigeria’s most significant trading and investment partners, with collaboration spanning key sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, digital innovation and sustainable development.

Over the years, the EU has backed numerous programmes designed to strengthen private-sector development, improve access to funding, enhance trade competitiveness and support regional economic integration.

Created to strengthen commercial and investment relations between Nigeria and Europe, the Nigeria–EU Business Forum has evolved into a major engagement platform linking policymakers with the private sector.

Organisers believe the 10th edition will help boost investor confidence, stimulate trade and investment activities, and create new opportunities for economic growth and employment.
