Nigeria’s 4×100 meters men’s team on Friday qualified for the World Athletics Championships as well as the Commonwealth Games with a new African Record.
The team achieved the feat at the ongoing National Trials at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, Edo State.
Alaba Akintola, Godson Brume, Favour Ashe and reigning World Under-20 champion, Udodi Onwuzurike, ran a record time of 38.34 seconds.
Athletes from Ghana and Benin Republic also ran at the trials with Team Nigeria moving up in the rankings above South Africa’s previous record of 38.51 seconds.
The World Athletics Championship will begin from Friday, 15 July to Sunday, 24 July, 2022 while the Commonwealth Games is slated to start four days later from Thursday, 28 July to Monday, 8 August, 2022.
