The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that Nigeria supplies consistent 24-hour electricity to neighbouring countries, including Niger, Togo, and Benin Republic, despite not having constant power within its own borders.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, TCN CEO Sule Abdulaziz noted that these countries receive stable electricity from Nigeria and are paying for it.

“We supply power to Togo, Benin, and Niger consistently. They get power from Nigeria on a 24-hour basis, and they’re paying,” Abdulaziz stated.

Addressing the state of power supply within Nigeria, Abdulaziz explained that some Nigerians, particularly those in Band A, are receiving nearly 24-hour electricity.

“Nigerians are getting 24-hour electricity supply. Not everybody. Those people in Band A, you’ll see they get 20-22 hours. Some Nigerians are getting 24 hours. Every distribution company has Band A, and that is their priority,” he said.

Despite these improvements, the Nigerian power sector continues to struggle with generating, transmitting, and distributing sufficient megawatts to meet the country’s household and industrial needs.
