Nigerian Army, EFCC Pledge Stronger Collaboration Against Financial Crime in Edo

The Nigerian Army and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reaffirmed their commitment to working together to combat corruption and financial crimes in Edo State.

Brigadier General A. O. Balogun, Commander of 4 Brigade, made the pledge on Monday during a courtesy visit to the EFCC’s Benin Zonal Directorate, according to a statement posted on the Commission’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday.

Balogun, who recently assumed office in Benin City, emphasised that the EFCC requires the support of all Nigerians to effectively execute its mandate as the nation’s leading anti-graft agency.

“The EFCC needs the support of every Nigerian given its role as the foremost anti-corruption agency in Nigeria,” he said, adding that collaboration from key stakeholders is essential for detecting and disrupting illicit financial flows. “If we can detect the flow of funds, we can nip such crimes in the bud,” he noted.

The Army commander also highlighted the longstanding partnership between the military and the EFCC, which includes joint operations against illegal oil bunkering and personnel training initiatives.

“One of the reasons for our visit is to familiarise ourselves with the leadership of the Commission and strengthen existing relationships. It is not about competition but collaboration. It doesn’t matter who kills the snake as long as the snake is killed,” Balogun added.

In response, EFCC Acting Zonal Director and Deputy Commander, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, lauded the visit and reaffirmed the importance of inter-agency cooperation in tackling financial crimes.

“Synergy and collaboration are crucial, as no single agency can effectively eliminate crimes in society,” Sa’ad said. “The Nigerian Army is a critical stakeholder in the anti-corruption fight. Our interests are aligned—we are committed to building a better Nigeria together.”
