The Nigerian Army has invited qualified Nigerians to submit applications for the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29/2026, as it begins the process of recruiting new officers into its specialized corps.
The announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement published on the Army’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
The commission explained that the DSSC programme is designed to bring in professionals whose skills are needed to strengthen military operations.
INEC clarified that the opportunity is open to both civilians and serving military personnel who possess relevant academic and professional qualifications.
Applicants who scale through the screening process will be trained and commissioned as officers of the Nigerian Army.
Successful candidates will be deployed into various corps where their expertise will contribute directly to national defence and internal security duties.
The Army listed the available formations to include the Nigerian Army Engineers, Nigerian Army Signals, Nigerian Army Medical Corps, Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and the Nigerian Army Education Corps.
Officials stressed that all applications for the programme are completely free and must be carried out online via the official recruitment portal.
The application window is scheduled to run from January 7 to February 4, 2026.
The Army urged interested candidates to apply early and ensure that all required information and documents are accurately submitted to avoid disqualification.

Related News reports indicate that the Chief of Army Staff has continued to reaffirm the Army’s commitment to professional development and national service, while warning against fraudulent agents who may attempt to exploit applicants.
With the resumption of the DSSC exercise, the Nigerian Army aims to attract competent hands to support its ongoing operations across the country.
Eligible Nigerians are therefore encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to serve the nation as commissioned officers.
