Nigerian Diaspora Applauds Tinubu’s Public Procurement Reforms

Some Nigerians residing in the United Kingdom have praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its ongoing reforms in the nation’s public procurement system, describing the initiatives as transformative for both local businesses and members of the diaspora.

The commendation came from the Nigeria Enterprise Community in the UK, with its President, Ms Christana Ayodele, making the statement available to reporters on Friday.

According to the statement, the reforms are critical in boosting investor confidence and facilitating greater engagement between international businesses and Nigeria.

“As members of the Nigerian diaspora actively engaged in enterprise and investment, we have observed significant improvements in transparency, accessibility, and competitiveness within Nigeria’s procurement system,” the statement read.

Ayodele noted that Nigeria’s procurement sector is now ranked among the top 15 globally—a milestone that, though not widely acknowledged, strengthens foreign participation and encourages greater involvement from Nigerians living abroad.

“The ongoing reforms have made it increasingly possible for Nigerians abroad to participate in public procurement processes without reliance on personal connections.

The system is gradually becoming more open, merit-driven, and aligned with international best practices,” the statement added.

The diaspora group also lauded Tinubu for his dedication to institutional reforms, highlighting his focus on appointing qualified individuals to lead key agencies and empowering them to achieve tangible results.

“The progress being recorded demonstrates that these reforms are not merely policy pronouncements but practical steps yielding measurable outcomes,” the statement emphasized.

The community pledged to continue supporting initiatives that foster transparency, accountability, and inclusive economic growth in Nigeria.

It also congratulated Adebowale Adedokun, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, on his recent recognition as Public Sector Reformer of the Year by Triangle International Magazine, describing the accolade as a well-deserved international acknowledgment of a Nigerian.
