Popular Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gukmi has claimed that the Nigerian government is aware of the identities and locations of terrorists operating in parts of the country.
Gumi made the remark during an interview with DRtv Nigeria, seen by FIRST Daily on Tuesday, March 10, while responding to questions about his past interactions with armed groups and his role in negotiating with them.
Responding, Gumi insisted that authorities are aware of the individuals involved in terrorist activities and where they can be found.
“The government knows every terrorist by name and by location,” Gumi said.
He added that his visits to armed groups were not conducted in isolation but with the knowledge of security agencies and traditional authorities.

“I don’t go to the terrorists alone. I call the police, I call security, everybody,” he said.
According to the cleric, he also informs local traditional leaders before embarking on such engagements.
“I go to the Emirs of that place to inform them. In fact, when we were going to one terrorist—even women went with me into the bush,” Gumi said.
Gumi has previously drawn public attention for his attempts to engage armed groups in northern Nigeria, arguing that dialogue can help address the country’s security challenges.
His latest remarks come amid ongoing concerns about the government’s strategy in tackling terrorism and banditry across several parts of the country.
