Nigerian Visa Applicants Must Submit Five-Year Social Media History — US Embassy

The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced that all visa applicants are now required to disclose their social media usernames and handles from the past five years as part of the application process.

The directive, issued in a statement and shared via the Mission’s official X account on Monday, aligns with the U.S. Department of State’s broader efforts to strengthen national security through enhanced applicant screening.

According to the statement, applicants must provide a comprehensive record of their social media profiles on the DS-160 visa application form.

Failure to do so, the Mission warned, could result in visa denial and possible ineligibility for future U.S. visa applications.

It further stressed that applicants certify the accuracy of all information provided before signing and submitting their applications.

The statement partly read, “Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last 5 years on the DS-160 visa application form.”

“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas.”
