Nigerians Must Confront Bandits, Terrorists Without Waiting For Foreign Help

Former Kaduna Central Senatorial District representative, Shehu Sani, has urged Nigerians to take collective responsibility in confronting terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements threatening the nation’s stability.

Sani made the call on Thursday, the 15th of January, 2026, during the public unveiling of his books, The Councillor and The Perilous Path to Europe, held in Abuja.

According to him, Nigeria should not expect external intervention to resolve its security challenges. He stressed that national unity, public awareness and the effective backing of state institutions are critical to defeating those who believe they can dominate communities through violence.

“We should not think that a foreign power will come here and free us from these bandits. We are to do it ourselves,” he added.

The former senator further recalled Nigeria’s history of contributing to peacekeeping efforts beyond its borders, noting that even powerful nations like the United States are still grappling with their own internal security issues and cannot be relied upon to fix Nigeria’s problems.
