The Federal Government has directed citizens to seek official permission before using Nigeria’s national anthem.

This instruction was issued by Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), in a statement on Wednesday, October 8.

Issa-Onilu explained that the measure aims to prevent the misrepresentation of the anthem, though he did not specify the contexts in which permission would be required.

“As custodians of Nigeria’s National Symbols, the NOA is tasked with preventing all forms of misuse. The DG emphasised that permission must be sought from the Agency before using the Anthem to avoid misrepresentation,” the statement read.

In addition, Issa-Onilu clarified that the Nigerian flag consists of green, white, and green stripes, with the official shade of green being Emerald 2.0.
