The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was left without legal representation on Thursday as his lead counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), and other members of his defense team formally withdrew from his case.
Agabi informed the court that their withdrawal followed the decision of the detained IPOB leader to take the case back from them.
All the Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) who had been on Kanu’s defense team also announced their withdrawal.
Confirming the development in court, Kanu told the presiding judge that he would be representing himself for the time being.

When the judge inquired whether he would like the court to assign him a lawyer, Kanu declined the offer, saying he preferred to handle his defense personally “for now,” though he did not rule out changing that position later.
Arguing orally in his defense, Kanu maintained that the court lacks the jurisdiction to try him, insisting that the charges against him were not properly grounded in law.
Proceedings were adjourned as the court noted his submissions.
