NNPP Suspends Senator Kawu Sumaila Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has taken disciplinary action against Senator Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial District, suspending him over alleged anti-party activities and affiliations with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje.

The suspension, announced by the party’s leadership in Kano State on Sunday, also affects three other members: Ali Madakin Gini, Sani Abdullahi Rogo, and Kabiru Alhassan Rurum.

Speaking at a press conference in Kano, NNPP’s Kano State chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, cited the affected members’ conduct as a violation of the party’s core principles.

He emphasized that these individuals, despite securing their positions in the National Assembly under the NNPP banner, had exhibited actions deemed contrary to party ideology.

“These members have acted in ways that betray the trust reposed in them by the party,” Dungurawa stated. “Their recent activities indicate a lack of commitment to the NNPP’s values, and as a result, disciplinary measures have become necessary.”

A key issue highlighted was Senator Kawu Sumaila’s reported engagements with APC members, particularly at personal and public events.

Dungurawa pointed to invitations extended to APC figures at Sumaila’s daughter’s wedding and project inaugurations in Sumaila Local Government Area as evidence of his shifting allegiances.

Expressing disappointment, the NNPP chairman reminded the public that the party had supported the suspended members with complimentary tickets during the last election, expecting their full loyalty in return.

Despite the firm stance, Dungurawa indicated that reconciliation remains possible. “If they recognize their missteps and return with genuine remorse, the party may reconsider its decision,” he stated.

As of the time of reporting, Senator Kawu Sumaila and the other suspended members have yet to respond to the allegations or the party’s decision.
